FUNDAMENTAL VALUES - ACCOUNTABILITY & TRANSPARENCY

Accountability  promotes transparency in a Democracy by ensuring that those in power are answerable for their actions, decisions and policies. Transparency allows citizens to have access with full disclosure of information about how government functions and how it uses THE PEOPLE's resources and tax  dollars.  Even as candidates, elected officials should be expected to  be transparent about their personal beliefs and allegiances.   Transparency helps prevent corruption, misuse of power and unethical  behavior. It allows citizens to hold their elected officials  accountable and make informed decisions during elections.  When leaders are held accountable, it demonstrates their commitment to serving the  public interest. This helps build trust and confidence in the  government, as citizens can see that their concerns are being acknowledged or addressed. Trust is essential for any healthy relationship and absolutely imperative when someone is voted into office  to represent you as a citizen.  Some of our local and State representatives have eroded the trust of THE PEOPLE by not disclosing  their affiliation to Anarchy and other undemocratic allegiances while  campaigning for their election.  Eureka City Council-member G. Mario Fernandez failed to disclose to his Ward 3 constituents the fact that he  is an author and organizer for Humboldt Grassroots, an anarchist group that promotes violence, rioting and blowing up police departments as a  solution to achieve their ideological goals. When Council-member  Fernandez was asked why he did not disclose this information as a  candidate, he responded with 'Nobody asked.'  This is a blatant  violation of THE PEOPLE's expectations for transparency.  Unfortunately,  other members of the City Council and local government officials  continue to support and endorse Councilmember Fernandez and his  affiliation with this local violent anarchist group. This continued  support is a blatant violation of THE PEOPLE's expectations for accountability. CRDV will continue to expose these violations and begin  the initial process to recall Council-member G. Mario Fernandez of Ward  3.
