In a Democratic society, the principles of individual liberties, equality, and the right to participate in decision-making processes are highly valued. By promoting competition, entrepreneurship, innovation and consumer choice, a free-market economy empowers the individual and provides them with the economic freedoms to autonomously pursue their dreams of establishing their own business and/or their vocational aspirations. This aligns with the Democratic ideals of giving people the power to shape their own economic destinies and make choices based on their own preference and/or needs. Some of our local and State representative have been advocating for and implementing radical reforms to help usher in a 'Solidarity Economy.' The core principles of a Solidarity Economy originated with Spanish anarchist writer Felipe Alaiz around 1937 and seeks to dismantle the free market economy alongside capitalism, while simultaneously implementing this undemocratic communist economy. Eureka resident and self-proclaimed 'anarcho-communist', David Cobb has been successful in lobbying for this local transition to this communist style economy. David Cobb is the co-coordinator of the US Solidarity Economy Network which according to Cobb, 'aims to globally restructure, undermine and overthrow the logic of capitalism through non reformist reforms.' In 2018, Cobb said in an interview on KEET-PBS that the Solidarity Economy Network's goal for our community was to 'create an experiment.' Unbeknownst to those who practice and celebrate Democratic values, Cobb set off on his mission to create false narratives and lobby to further his 'experiment' on our local community. Through non-profit he founded known as Cooperation Humboldt (recently name changed to Solidarity Humboldt), Cobb has formed alliances with other like-minded non-profit organizations such as the Ink People Center for the Arts. For many years now, the Ink People have been incubating, financing, housing and providing cover for anarchist groups such as Humboldt Grassroots, who promote and advocate for violent acts and rioting. Council-member Leslie Castellano is the Executive Director of the Ink People, Cobb's good friend and co-conspirator/organizer of the annual symposiums called Artist Dismantling Capitalism. Cobb has been quoted saying that he engages is Eureka's 'electoral politics for candidates and ballot initiatives like rank choice voting.' Cobb recently partnered and lobbying for the Wiyot Tribe as their Advancement Manager who is spearheading their building of affordable housing in Eureka and the "Land Back Movement." This national movement aims to return all land back to indigenous tribes that last occupied any given territory. This idea fails to recognize or acknowledge that many tribes were emersed in territorial wars with each other throughout history. This fact makes it very difficult to identify what tribe should actually be the beneficiary of such an agenda. CRDV will continue to educate, challenge and expose the truth about these undemocratic puppet-masters implementing this anarcho-communistic agenda in our community.
