Many local and State politicians, anarchist social groups, academic professors and activists have been demonizing Capitalism in our community in attempts to usher in a new economy based on anarcho-communistic principles. Known as a 'Solidarity Economy,' its origins come from Spanish anarchist writer Felipe Alaiz around 1937 and seeks to dismantle capitalism and other democratic institutions while simultaneously implementing this anarcho-communist economy. In fact, members of our current Eureka City Council have funded, organized, participated in and advocated for the dismantling of Capitalism through hosting annual symposiums and events that focus on this very undemocratic agenda. Ward 1 Eureka City Council-member Leslie Castellano and her affiliated non-profit organizations have hosted a symposium for four consecutive years called Artist Dismantling Capitalism. Councilmember Castellano has been quoted as saying that her "inspiration for running for City Council came out of Artist Dismantling Capitalism." Leslie and other anarchist that work in the Democratic system of government are in direct conflicts of interest and should be recusing themselves from voting on a host of issues. This should include any budgetary, economic development, or private sector initiatives since their true personal agenda is to 'Dismantle' capitalism, of which is our core economic institution that guides our Democracy. We need to continue to evolve the practice of Capitalism, learn from historical mistakes, re-examine, reinforce and focus on positive aspects of Capitalism as being one of our most important Democratic institutions. Capitalism aligns with the principles of individual freedoms, economic opportunity and personal choice. Capitalism allows for private ownership and self-control of individual resources. Capitalism breeds entrepreneurship and competition, which results in free thought and innovation. To be an 'anti-capitalist' is to ignore and disrespect the evolution of all minority groups and small local business owners who have contributed to our region's economic growth by incentivizing hard work, productivity and investment. Whether you are aspiring to start a business, established your business from home or have a brick-and-mortar location in our community, the anti-capitalist agenda wants to destroy all that you've worked for and is attempting to make you ashamed to be a business owner (capitalist). The radical economic shift that these anti-capitalist groups are implementing and advocating for will ultimately bring chaos and unethical behavior that does not align with a Democratic society. CRDV plans on hosting its own pro-capitalist symposiums and events to help educate and combat this assault on our local business sector and beyond.
